In This Alone
October 7th, 2010Jeremiah 9:24
But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord
who demonstrates unfailing love
and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth,
and that I delight in these things.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
In the preceding chapters and verses, God’s heart for his people, and his sorrow over their actions is so vividly expressed that it is amazing that the people of that day and even people today still remain unaffected by God’s heart for them. Even among all the pious acts of religious observance, the real message rarely got through. God really desires us to truly know him, not just intellectually or even religiously, but deep down: a circumcision of the heart. A real spiritual change that transforms us. If we really understood his his unfailing love wouldn’t we be different people?
Father in heaven, I want to truly know you beyond the religious forms and intellectual knowledge. Your unfailing love for me is so great and wonderful. Thank you for sharing your heart with me. Transform me by your word through the power of your Holy Spirit. Make me a mirror of your heart so I can show your unfailing love to others. Thank you for your gift of salvation through Christ that makes a relationship with you possible.
